Yarrow tincture (for topical wound care)
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is hands-down THE plant to have as part of your herbal apothecary.
Topically the tincture does wonders to stop bleeding and to heal infected open wounds. You can drop or spray the tincture onto the wound site until it closes up. Yarrow speeds healing time.
Yarrow is also wonderful to use as a mouth rinse and can also be applied directly to sore or bleeding gums. You can even drop some tincture on to your toothbrush and brush your teeth with it (it´s nice to have something else on there too like baking soda for whiteness).
Besides all of the wonderful properties previously mentioned, yarrow tincture is also a great tick and mosquito repellent (although like many natural repellents, it needs to be sprayed more often, as in every hour or two, in order to maintain its efficacy).
Traditionally yarrow tea (more so than the tincture) is used to lower fevers. It moves heat away from the center of the body so that you can dispel the heat and cool down the body.
Yarrow is a WONDERFUL remedy to held close and dear. There is no doubt that you will need her in your life!
