Calendula Tallow Salve (heal your skin)
Calendula is the gift that keeps on giving. She is an annual plant so she produces a lot of flowers and seeds; the flowers can be both orange and yellow. During the course of several weeks in the summer, calendula will produce new flowers that you pick every day (leaving a few so that they can go to seed).
As a medicine calendula is most talked about as a way to soothe irritated skin - and for good reason! She works well! While we don´t put fatty salves on open wounds, once the wound is closed up (thanks to yarrow tincture for example) then it can be a great time to slather on that calendula salve to assist and speed up the rest of the healing process.
However, you don´t have to wait for your skin to be irritated to use calendula salve. In fact, you can use it to nourish your skin and prevent issues that might otherwise arrive.
The fatty vehicle for this calendula medicine is grass-fed beef tallow from Smokin Oaks organic farm in Tennessee and it is delicious. Tallow is medicine, both internally and externally. Just tallow on its own can do wonders to nourish, feed and hydrate the skin. It is great for all skin types but specifically for dry skin.
Calendula + Tallow = skin medicine and nourishment that we all need
